Movement & Elements

Elemental Movement Journey

There's a reason shamanic traditions across cultures have always worked with the elements.

Earth, water, fire, air, ether: they're not just symbols. They're a complete map of what it means to be alive, and every emotion, every energy, every state of being lives somewhere within them.

Moving through each element, twice, means nothing gets bypassed. Whatever has been waiting to move in you has somewhere to go.

But this isn't choreography, and it isn't performance. It's about learning to let the body move you, rather than moving the body to please anyone. That distinction is felt immediately. And for most people, it's revelatory, because so much of how we've learned to inhabit our bodies has been from the outside in. Observing. Managing. Evaluating.

This practice reverses that. The body becomes the teacher, and what it's teaching is trust, in itself, and in you. A trust that gets rebuilt not through thinking or understanding, but through moving.

Sessions close with a sound healing using crystal bowls and voice, and can be extended to include a full 60-minute sound journey.

The body as
the teacher.

This practice draws on something ancient, but it works because of something very present: the relationship between movement, emotion, and trust.

Emotion is Energy in Motion

Emotions are physiological events as much as mental ones. Movement gives them a pathway to complete their cycle, rather than becoming stuck or stored in the body.

Result: emotions that have felt stuck for a long time can finally move and resolve.

From Object to Subject

Most movement in daily life, including exercise, is performed with the body as an object: something to shape, control, or judge. Moving from the inside out reverses this, restoring a felt sense of being in your body rather than observing it.

Result: a fundamental shift in how the body is experienced, day to day.

The Elements as Containers

Each element corresponds to a different quality of energy and emotion, from the grounded heaviness of earth to the explosive release of fire. Moving through all of them ensures a full emotional range is met, not just the ones that feel comfortable.

Result: nothing gets left out or avoided by accident.

Trust is Built Somatically

You can't think your way into trusting your body. Trust is built through repeated experiences of the body doing what it needs to do, safely, and being met with acceptance rather than judgement.

Result: a body that feels less like a problem and more like a partner.

Sound Anchors the Shift

Closing with crystal bowls and voice gives the nervous system a clear signal that the journey is complete, helping integrate whatever has moved during the practice.

Result: a felt sense of completion, rather than energy left activated.

The shape of
the journey.

01

Grounding

We begin seated or standing, connecting with the breath and the body before any movement begins.

02

Moving through the elements

Each element is explored through movement, twice through the full cycle, with music supporting each quality of energy.

03

Sound healing

Crystal bowls and voice bring the movement to rest, with the option to extend into a full sound journey.

04

Integration

Space to integrate what arose, first individually and in sharing with another person, then together as a group, naming what came up before closing the space.

Elemental Movement Journey with Camila Rivera

You don't need to be
a dancer.

1

Anyone who relates to their body as something to manage, fix, or improve, rather than inhabit.

2

People who feel self-conscious moving in front of others, and want a space where that's not the focus.

3

Those who sense emotions are "stuck" somewhere in the body and want a way to let them move.

4

People drawn to ritual, ceremony, or shamanic frameworks as a way of understanding their inner world.

5

Anyone wanting to add a more expressive, embodied element to their existing practices.

Before & after
your journey.

Before

Wear clothing that allows you to move freely. Bare feet are recommended if comfortable. Eat lightly beforehand, ideally at least an hour before the session.

After

Movement can bring up unexpected emotion or fatigue. Allow time afterwards before driving or jumping into demanding tasks. Hydrate well, and notice what your body wants in the hours that follow.

"Camila curves her voice so beautifully it feels as though I am nestled softly in my mother's breasts. As an opera fan, it is not just healing to be taken back to my infant state but also to be in awe of her celestial voice. Nourish your soul while Camila holds the space with so much grace."

Frequently
asked.

No prior movement or dance experience is needed, and there's no choreography to learn. The invitation is simply to let the body respond to the music and the elements in whatever way feels true, which looks different for everyone.

That's completely fine. Some sessions feel quiet, and that's not a sign anything went wrong. The practice works cumulatively, and what doesn't surface in one session may surface in another, or simply continue to support a gradual shift over time.

The framework draws on shamanic traditions that have used the elements for centuries, but you don't need any particular belief system to benefit from the work. Many people experience it simply as a powerful way to move and feel.

There's overlap in spirit, but this journey has a specific structure: moving through each of the five elements, twice, with intention. It's more guided than open ecstatic dance, while still leaving plenty of room for your own expression within each element.

Yes. The standard session closes with a short sound healing, but this can be extended into a full 60-minute sound journey for those who want to go deeper into stillness and integration after the movement.
